Parent On Board - About Me

My Story

Hi, I am Maria Yakimchuk. I am a Certified Life Coach who helps moms struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety find joy and fulfillment in motherhood.

My goal and mission is to give moms tools to be able to heal their own traumas, discover their true authentic power, and be able to create motherhood experiences that are in line with their visions.

Why Focus on Moms?

When I started Parent OnBoard, it was just a blog meant to not only document my experiences and my story, but to also help other moms know that they are not alone in their struggles.

I wrote it as a parenting blog because that is where my expertise lied at the time. I hold a Master’s of Arts in Psychology (Marriage and Family Therapy Concentration) and the majority of my professional experience revolved around working with children and their families. And while I am still very much an expert in that field, I kept getting drawn to focusing more of my work and continuing education on moms.

After all, moms are not only the backbone of the family and the glue that holds the family together, they are the heart and soul of the family.

And when that heart and soul is struggling, the whole family is struggling.

I experienced it firsthand, when I had prenatal and later postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety. I was not ok. My whole family was not ok. But I didn’t feel like there was any place to turn for help. So, I struggled in silence.

And I know that I am not alone. Every day I encounter mothers who feel the same and have nowhere to turn to for help. Mothers that feel disempowered, lost in their new role and identity, invalidated by society despite doing the most important, yet difficult work of caring for the new generation. Mothers that are stuck in never ending loops of anxiety, depression, and shame.

That is why I felt called to transition Parent OnBoard from a blog meant to educate and spread awareness, to Parent OnBoard Coaching – a place where mothers can come for support, understanding, empathy, and love. And most importantly a place where they can heal, and discover who they truly are underneath all the trauma and negativity.

When We Heal The Mother, We Heal the Whole Family

For me, motherhood has been an incredibly difficult, yet incredibly important journey of my life.

It has allowed to me to see all the places that I have not yet healed. It has also given me an opportunity to connect with a deeper purpose in life. I always knew that I wanted to be in a healing profession, thus wanting to become a therapist, yet I couldn’t quite narrow down who it was that I truly wanted to help heal. But once I became a mother, it all became clear.

I realized that without healing mothers, we cannot break cycles of generational trauma and toxic patterns.

And thus I embarked on a journey to become a certified coach and certified EFT practitioner. I saw this as an opportunity for deeper healing for all the mothers, including myself.

As you can see from the photos, I am a mother to 2 beautiful and incredibly energetic boys. I know all too well the struggles and funny moments that come with being a boy mom. It can be hilarious and infuriating all at the same time.

And it is for those 2 boys that I continue to heal myself. Because I know that if I am able to put my trauma behind me and work through it, I can be the mother I have always imagined myself to be – peaceful, empathetic, non-judgmental, open, and loving.

And I know that you want the same for yourself and for your family.

Mama, it is finally time to put yourself first because you matter. You deserve to be healed and free from emotional blocks and past traumas. And if you are still stuck in making this choice for yourself because the message of being selfish ring strong in your ears, remember the next quote….
